Looking forward to your impressions. Sad to hear that SubEthaEdit has gone the way of fully-commercial text editors. Does the last free version still work? Save it if it does - it might come in handy.

I've mentioned this to Ulrich before, but he said due to security reasons and stuff, he'd prefer not to. Most people wouldn't know how to use it, and the ones that do might be able to do some other stuff which he wouldn't like. I don't know if this is possible, but for example running a browser through X and visiting sites that are inherently blocked through the school.

They should install PuTTY and X-Win32 and make it standard software on all the computers, as ubiquitous as Internet Explorer. That's what they do at USC, and it makes SSH convenient.

Ask Mr. Ulrich, perhaps.

Comment on Apple’s Future? by LokiSnake

I believe that when they sell songs on iTunes, most of the money goes to the record companies. Apple promised the companies a lot of money, or else they wouldn't have even agreed to do this. And I think the rest of the money just about covers operating costs for the iTMS.

A while ago, four large record companies wanted to have different pricing for tracks. I would bet they wanted to charge more money for popular tracks, and still charge 99c for all the other songs. Well, yay for consumers.

Doesn't Apple make a lot of money from selling songs through iTunes? That's not hardware. The profit margin on software is huge, since the material cost of stamping CDs is virtually nothing. The only cost is development, and if they're developing the OS anyway, why not reach the much larger market of Intel PCs?

Anyhoo, my sister says that in Harvey Mudd, nobody ever works outside of their dorms because there are too many people. Or, the people you see out there are probably failing XD

Three words: Ruby on Rails.

Having a good grasp of C/C++ is also handy. Pointers/data structures/heaps/stacks/binary trees are fun to think about.
